On Thursday 8th October Councillor Kerrie Child is to speak at the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Bellingen on ‘Youth’ in Bellingen. The meeting is held at the Bellingen Valley Motor Inn starting at 6.00pm and guests are welcome. Anyone wishing to attend should notify Ian Gilmore at 66 551239.

Councillor Child has been involved with the preliminary talks concerning the proposal for a ‘Youth Centre’ in Bellingen an idea that has the tacit support of the Rotary Club of Bellingen. Councillor Child will speak about the needs of youth in Bellingen, community consultation and the state of the plans to fulfil those needs.

Rotary is involved in a number of programs involving the young people from this area. In the coming month two Bellingen High students will attend programs provided by Rotary District 9650. Zoe Sparks has been accepted as a participant in a Marine Studies Seminar to be held in CoffsHarbour and Lachlan Koudela has been sponsored to attend a Seminar on ‘Beef Agriculture’ held in Coonabarabran. In January, Megan Telford, a student at Bishop Druitt, has been selected to attend the two week ‘National Youth Science Forum’ held in Canberra. These students will report to the Rotary Club of Bellingen after their experiences and any interested guests are invited to attend these meetings.
